Allianz Field Transforms Midway Neighborhood in St. Paul
Ambitious Plans Take Shape Around Minnesota United's Home
St. Paul, MN - As Minnesota United FC continues its rise in Major League Soccer, the team's stunning Allianz Field home is serving as the centerpiece of a broader revitalization of the Midway neighborhood.
Diverse Dining and Retail Options
Team owner Bill McGuire has ambitious plans to transform the area surrounding the state-of-the-art stadium. A French boulangerie-style bakery, an Italian pizzeria, and a terrazzo-floor diner are all in the works, bringing a diverse array of dining options to the district.
McGuire is also focused on cultivating a lively public space, including plans for an acre-sized park featuring two new sculptures and an expertly-designed flower garden. An outdoor ice rink is also in the plans, allowing the space to be enjoyed year-round.
Office and Housing Development
Beyond the food and recreation, the development will include the area's first new office building constructed from the ground up since 1999. Dubbed "TreeHouse," this modern structure will bring additional commercial activity to the neighborhood.
McGuire hinted at plans for a combination of office, retail, and housing on nearby parcels of land, aiming to create a true live-work-play district centered around the soccer stadium.
Increased Connectivity
Improved transportation and connectivity are also key priorities. The interstate frontage road already carries a significant amount of traffic, and McGuire believes there is immense potential to better utilize this infrastructure.
"There is no place in this state that has that kind of traffic flow and engagement with people," McGuire said. "Shame on us if we can't make it be more than what we want it to be."
