Canada Gears Up for Homecoming Clash with Australia at Stade Saputo

Homecoming for Canadian Stars

The Canadian men's national team is set to take on No. 25-ranked Australia in a much-anticipated friendly match at CF Montréal's Stade Saputo. For five players from the province of Québec, including Ismaël Koné, this will be a special homecoming as they represent their country in front of a sold-out crowd.

"We kind of regretted last fall not being here. We just came for training and not for a match. Now, I think we're being validated by that thought because we're going to play in front of a sold out stadium at Stade Saputo on Friday night so we're really excited for that," said head coach Jesse Marsch.

Building Momentum Toward the World Cup

The match against Australia is an important step in Canada's preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which they will co-host with the United States and Mexico. Marsch is looking to capitalize on the growing interest in soccer across the country, especially in Québec where the sport has become increasingly popular among both boys and girls.

"It's about growing and ensuring more families, boys and girls can go to a stadium and watch soccer. I want more people in stadiums, giving an impact to communities," said Canadian Soccer Association president Nick Bontis.

Injured Captain Davies 'On the Right Path'

One notable absence from the Canadian lineup is star player Alphonso Davies, who is still recovering from an injury. However, Marsch provided an update, stating that the Bayern Munich defender is "on the right path" to recovery and should be available for the World Cup next year.
