Frustrations Mount for Winless Jets
The New York Jets' miserable start to the season continued, as they fell to the Carolina Panthers 17-16 in Week 7. The Jets, still seeking their first victory, put up another dismal offensive performance, managing just 82 total yards.
Quarterback Zach Wilson struggled mightily, passing for only 45 yards and completing just 9-of-17 attempts. The absence of star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who was listed as doubtful with a knee injury, was clearly felt.
"We just couldn't get anything going offensively," said Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. "It's incredibly frustrating to see our guys work so hard and come up short again."
Panthers Grind Out Crucial Road Win
The Panthers, meanwhile, were able to eke out a hard-fought victory to improve to 4-3 on the season. Running back Rico Dowdle had a breakout game, rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown against his former team.
"Rico really stepped up and gave us a huge boost today," said Panthers head coach Steve Wilks. "Our defense also did a great job of containing their passing attack and making some key stops."
Quarterback Baker Mayfield managed the game effectively, throwing for 182 yards and a touchdown, while the Carolina defense harassed Jets QB Zach Wilson throughout the afternoon.
