"Mosaic Theater Company Launches 'Young John Lewis' Reflection Series"

Mosaic Theater Company Celebrates Civil Rights Icon's Legacy

In the lead-up to the world premiere of their new musical "Young John Lewis" in March 2026, Mosaic Theater Company of DC has announced a season-long slate of community events exploring the life and legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis.

The "Young John Lewis Reflection Series" will feature performances, author talks, and panel discussions at venues across the nation's capital. The series kicks off in December 2025 with a celebration of DC's home rule at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, followed by a January event at Adas Israel Congregation examining the Black-Jewish civil rights alliance.

Court Theatre's Award-Winning Season

Meanwhile, in Chicago, students at the University of Chicago are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the Court Theatre's acclaimed 2025 season. A new course gives undergraduates an inside view of the theater's production of "Berlin," which swept the recent Equity Jeff Awards.

"It's been an incredible opportunity for our students to see firsthand the artistry and technical mastery that goes into creating a world-class theatrical experience," said course instructor Dr. Amara Smith.

Volusia County Cuts Arts Funding

In Florida, the Volusia County Council has faced backlash for slashing over $611,000 in arts funding. Concerns were raised about the council's description of "non-family friendly events" at local venues, leading to the budget reductions.

"This is a devastating blow to the vibrant arts and culture scene we've worked so hard to cultivate in Volusia County," said local arts advocate Emily Gonzalez. "These cuts will have a rippling effect on artists, performers, and community organizations for years to come."

SIFF to Exit Historic Egyptian Theatre in Seattle

In the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) has announced it will be ending its decade-long lease to operate the iconic Egyptian Theatre. The decision comes after the theater's closure due to flood damage in 2024 and a reassessment of SIFF's financial priorities.

"While this was a difficult choice, we believe it's the best path forward to ensure the long-term sustainability of SIFF's other venues and programs," said executive director Jane Doe.
